Nemo Cake

For my godsons second birthday there really was only one option as he has a new obsession with Nemo. It was something a bit different but I got out the fondant as ever and gave it a go.

This was a rich, moist chocolate cake with thee shades of butter icing to look like the ocean and seaweed. the flavour compliments the chocolate cake wonderfully (I think).

Kingfisher and Poppy cake

Everyone has something they collect or that makes them happy. This cake was made for someone who is passionate about poppies. They also really like Kingfishers.

It seemed appropriate to combine the two then for their cake. This decoration is a fondant plaque that can be removed from the cake before cutting and saved for quite a long time as a keep sake.

The plaque was hand painted and is completely edible. The cake inside was a rich fruit cake soaked in brandy.

I really enjoyed making this cake and I will definitely be decorating in this hand painted style again.

Christening Cake

The week after the blessing cakes I was asked to decorate a christening cake that had been made.

The clients had an idea of what they wanted and so it was up to me to make it happen.

The cake was covered in marzipan and then fondant icing with fondant decorations.

I was really happy with the outcome. Its great when someone knows what they want.

If you have a cake being made for you then feel free to ask me about decorating it for you.

Blessing Cake Table

A few weeks ago I made some cakes for a Blessing.
I was asked to make a variety of cakes to celebrate and here they are.

I made strawberries and cream cupcakes topped with butter icing. The fresh strawberries create a moist texture and running the strawberry jam through the individual cupcakes gives little bursts of flavour.

As they were for two boys the colour theme was bright primary colours.
Their names and photographs decorated the cakes.

This one was a rich chocolate cake filled with chocolate butter icing.

The decoration was kept quite simple but again bright to compliment both the main blessing cake and the cup cakes.

This second cake was a passion cake. If you have never tried passion cake it is similar to a carrot cake only richer and fruitier. Due to the amount of fruit in the mixture it stays moist. It was filled with butter icing.

For both of these cakes they were covered in butter icing underneath the fondant as it compliments the cakes.

The main centrepiece for the table was the blessing cake itself.

A two tier madeira sponge cake with raspberry jam and butter icing, covered with marzipan and fondant icing.

The angel topping the cake was also made of fondant icing.

It was a great celebration the I was lucky enough to attend and it was lovely to be able to make something for everyone to enjoy.
